The Frugality’s guide to dressing for the season
Fashion stylist and blogger Alex Stedman shows us how to put together some effortlessly gorgeous outfits for the run-up to Christmas
Looking and feeling your best over the Christmas period isn’t just about finding the most dazzling LBD for the office party. Sometimes it’s the fun, unexpected moments that make the season feel special, whether it’s catch-up drinks with the girls, picking out your Christmas tree or a cosy pub lunch. So we asked one of our favourite fashion insiders, Alex Stedman (known as The Frugality to her thousands of followers), for her thoughts on dressing for the ‘other’ days of Christmas with Tu’s new collection. We’ll be applying Alex’s advice all year-round…
“Start with a ‘wow’ piece and build your outfit around it,” Alex suggests. These sparkly Mary-Janes from Tu fit the bill – we love how Alex has teamed them with Tu’s slimline dungarees and checked shirt for a high-low mix that looks totally chic but not try-hard.
“I think of this as my nod to the Christmas jumper,” says Alex, of her snuggly roll-neck from Tu. This outfit is pitch-perfect for running-around days or a festive lunch in the pub, thanks to the way she’s styled Tu’s shimmery pleated skirt with a pair of sleek sneakers. It’s a brilliant festive-with-a-twist combination that sums up Alex’s “relaxed but still pulled-together” approach to style.
“It’s not just the sparkle that I love,” Alex points out about her favourite statement shoes. “It’s the fact that they’ve got a low heel so you can wear them from morning until night.” And she’s topped off her outfit with Tu’s sumptuous white tailored coat from the Premium range, another one of those standout pieces that you can wear with everything in your wardrobe.
