Your summer holiday playlist
The 5 looks you need to feel your happiest this season.
We worked it out: a two-week summer holiday amounts to 1.04% of the calendar year. This (slightly depressing) calculation makes our annual preoccupation with creating an awesome, Instagram-breaking holiday wardrobe feel a little out of whack. So we decided to even things out by singling out the five looks that will make you feel sunny and upbeat all summer long, whether you’re on a boring conference call or sipping one of those pineapple cocktails with a little umbrella on top. Let’s kick off with Tu’s breezy culottes and co-ordinating tailored top (above) that will work as a matchy-matchy pair at the office as well as sophisticated separates on your next city break.
We don’t know where Madras, tartan’s gloriously colourful and summery cousin, has been hiding all this time, but let’s all rejoice at its return by slipping into another versatile two-piece. Tu’s crisp sleeveless shirt knotted at the waist feels suitably 60s, and if you partner it up with a matching midi skirt, we guarantee that both your morning commute and evening walk on the beach will feel more joyful.
Tu’s navy denim shorts aren’t the obvious sidekick for a cropped, double-breasted blazer, but it’s a yin-and-yang combination that totally works. The blazer adds polish and structure in an instant, which makes it a perfect cover-up on cool summer evenings, no matter where you’re going (plus its fluffy-cat approval rating is high).
We’re not so big on new-season fashion “commandments” here at Tu HQ – but if we were, we’d say that investing in an off-the-shoulder Bardot top is a non-negotiable part of summer 2017. We would also get a little bossy about Tu’s embroidered jeans. The cute flowers are only part of their charm – you should check out the cropped length and flattering cut too. But only if, you know, you want to.
When the temperature rises, the Tu design teams know we want to wear a dress. And they pulled out all the stops with this frock, a summery cocktail of exotic print, strappy shoulder details and a flattering fit-and-flare shape. It’s cool and effortless enough for a lazy day in the sun, but if your holiday (or the sun) is still a long way off, you’ll find it’s also perfectly pitched for summer in the city.
